By the time of the official opening the show received almost entirely favourable reviews. Its flashy fight scenes, flying scenes, magical disappearances and camp tongue-in-cheek story was described as a “mix of Errol Flynn and Monty Python” making “an insanely enjoyable musical”. The flamenco dancing was a great hit. According to Quentin Letts in the Daily Mail “Blimey, the flamenco! There can’t have been this much foot-stamping since Elton John split from Bernie Taupin”. It ran until March 14 th 2009, and then proceeded to be performed in many different countries, winning many awards, and taking over $75 million dollars at the box office.Commentaires longs: Une version qui nous a semblée tout sauf convaincante. Don Diego est un jeune homme fougueux et insouciant qui a été envoyé en Espagne par son père afin de "devenir un homme". A son retour dans sa Californie natale, il retrouve ses habitants injustement persécutés par des officiers avides d'argent. Déterminé à venir au secours des plus démunis, Don Diego devient Zorro, justicier masqué, redresseur de torts et virtuose de l'épée. Mais sa mission se complique lorsque l'amour croise son chemin... qui réunira chant, danse flamenco, duels, cascades, romance et aventures.

Don Diego de la Vega/Zorro – He is the son of Don Alejandro, who initially heads the pueblo. He adopts a heroic alter ego to save the people of the pueblo who are being punished under Ramon's cruel leadership.
Luisa – Luisa grows up with Diego and Ramon. She falls in love first with Diego and then Zorro, not knowing his true identity.
Ramon – Diego's childhood friend. Ramon is jealous of the feelings Luisa has for Diego. He is made captain of the army and seizes power.
Inez – The gypsy queen, Inez travels around the backstreets of Barcelona performing with Diego, with whom she falls in love.
Sergeant Garcia – Servant to Ramon, he is cowardly, yet likable. He falls in love with Inez.
Don Alejandro de la Vega – He is Diego's father, and the rightful leader of the Pueblo.
